Join the Northern Hardwood Research Institute, Groupe Savoie and Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources at Otter Ponds Demonstration Forest in Mooseland on Thursday, Oct. 12, for a workshop showcasing the latest tools and techniques for managing valuable northern hardwood species in the Acadian Forest. Registration will be from 9:00 to 9:30 at the Mooseland Community Centre (4032 Mooseland Road), and participants will be shuttled down to the site for a start time of 10:00.
Presenters will be stationed throughout the rich drumlins of Otter Ponds, demonstrating ways to manage for greater environmental, economic and social value in this diverse forest type. The topics will include: NHRI's Silviculture Prescription System; log value optimization by Groupe Savoie; how to naturally regenerate northern hardwood species; and how to apply NSDNR's Forest Ecosystem Classification and Pre-Treatment Assessment to these lands.
